So here it is …

So here it is, here is my first blog.  I never thought I would become a “blogger”, my English teachers from high school would probably freak out…grammar was never my strong suit!!  (If you expect this to be grammatically correct, you may just want to stop reading now.)

Being as this is the one of the first posts for Dollars & Sense Creative Consulting, I feel you should get to know a little more about my journey.  Yes you can read my lovely resume, but that is all it is.

I am not an IT person.  I went to college for Business Management.  I actually didn’t do all that well in my CIS classes.  (Maybe if I had gone more I would have done better…but that is neither here nor there)  I know what works and what doesn’t.  I have had many situations where I just have to figure it out.  Many of the systems I use, I am self-taught.  The one piece of advice I try to give to anyone dealing with a computer system (especially point of sale) is don’t be scared of it.

You have to get to know these systems to use them.  The only way you are going to learn is to break it.  Now, I am not saying take a hammer to a computer terminal, but you have to be brave enough to TRY.  The best way to prepare for this, is when you are on the phone with Technical Support ask questions, if they are logged into your computer WATCH what they are doing.  Ask your IT or Help Desk to SLOW DOWN and explain it to you…. or better yet, let you do it while they tell you WHAT TO DO.   By doing this you are programming your brain and you will be surprised on what that little bit of training will allow you to do.

Technical Support is needed.  The Support teams know you need them, so they will charge…as we all now this is not cheap!!!  The more you KNOW the more DOLLARS you can SAVE and that just makes SENSE!!
